Havana, October 25 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel, in a meeting to check on the recovery of Pinar del Rio, severely affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian, learned that this western province recovered 74.52 percent of electricity service, as of Tuesday.

The president of the local Defense Council, Yamilé Ramos informed that progress is also being made in the supply of water to the population and telecommunications.

Actions are also progressing in agriculture and in the tobacco sector, according to a report on national television.

The greatest problems are concentrated in the reconstruction of housing, Ramos said at the meeting.   He explained that of the more than 108,000 houses affected, only 2,800 have been recovered, due, among other factors, to the lack of agility in the procedures and in the sale of materials.

Ramos said that sometimes the stores do not have all the necessary resources.   In view of this reality, the Ministry of Construction is increasing its shipments to the province, especially of roofs.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Defense Council is adopting measures such as ways to bring materials closer to the population and accelerate the pace of recovery of houses in the territory.
