Havana, Dec 22 (RHC) The University of Havana (UH) and the Shanghai University for Science and Technology (USTT) opened a joint international center and a laboratory on cancer diagnosis, steps that consolidate their relations.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) website, the opening ceremony was attended by Dionisio Zaldívar, vice-rector of the University of Havana, and Cai Yonglian, his counterpart from the Chinese entity, together with authorities from both countries.

The note explains that the UH office in the international joint center will be in charge of attending to the links with this and other universities in China.

From next year, Zaldívar will work there together with an official in charge of the scientific-academic area and another responsible for cultural dissemination and communication.

The Vice-Chancellor indicated that a representative of the Chinese university is planning a trip to Havana to open its international joint center office, which will be called UH-USST Hub.

As Zaldívar explained, the project of the laboratory for cancer diagnosis and energy therapy emerged after a framework collaboration agreement was signed in 2020 between the two institutions.

The UH also established contacts and sealed agreements with the East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, and Shanghai Normal University, as well as with other universities in the provinces of Henan, Shandong, and Jiangsu.

There is a strong Chinese interest in working with Cuba in the teaching of the Spanish language, culture, and multidisciplinary studies of the Island, although they also wish to collaborate in tourism and economy, the Cuban official explained. (Source: ACN)
