Havana, Jan 1 (RHC) A construction project that will benefit 40 families affected by Hurricane Ian, which hit Vueltabajo on Sept. 27, is being undertaken in areas of the capital municipality of the Cuban province of Pinar del Río.

Two kilometers from the city of Vueltabajo, on the road to La Coloma, the houses that will replace what the storm took away from the people of Pinar del Río are being built.

Waldo Fuentes, a member of the medium-sized company WFA Construction, assured that the work is over 40 percent complete and is progressing according to plan.

He said that the first 18 dwellings will be completed in March and the rest later on.

The houses are structured according to the requirements of the so-called typology II, which includes solid block and cement walls and a light roof, he added.

Workers of Hydraulic Resources in the province, at the same time, are assessing the possibilities for the supply of drinking water to the future residents of that place; while an urbanization project, to be carried out later, is being planned.

Ian caused in the provincial capital some five thousand total landslides and considerable partial damages, being the territory with greater affectation in the housing fund of Vueltabajo.
