Tania Velázquez confirmed that the Arimao submarine fiber optic cable has reached its destination.
Havana, Jan 10 (RHC) Cuba's Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca praised on Tuesday the progress of the installation of the Arimao submarine cable, which since the day before joined the country and Martinique.
On the social network Twitter, Malmierca stressed that the execution of that work by the French company Orange creates conditions to improve the services of the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A (ETECSA), in the face of those who block and accuse of not bringing Internet to the population.
"The Cuban Revolution works for the people. Better without blockade," Malmierca said in his message.
Also on that social network, ETECSA’s president Tania Velázquez, confirmed that this Monday the Arimao submarine fiber optic cable arrived at its destination, after it began its deployment on December 9 from the Tricontinental Port of Cienfuegos, in south-central Cuba.
To avoid damaging the environment, Cuban authorities took into account the protection of the marine ecosystem and the effects on areas with large concentrations of plants, in addition to the nesting periods of leatherback turtles.
Regarding the Arimao project, Cuban Vice Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo recently pointed out that it is a sign of the Government's will to expand the island's international communications system, to advance the process of informatization and digital transformation of society.
