Havana, Jan 21 (RHC) Cuba spoke on behalf of the Group of 77 plus China during the briefing of the presidents of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the main bodies of the United Nations (UN) with responsibility in promoting international cooperation, mainly in the economic and social fields.
In his statement, Pedro Luis Pedroso, ambassador and Cuba´s permanent representative to the UN, expressed that given the pressing situation in the world, and the setback in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, it is required that these two bodies create the necessary momentum to get back on track and stimulate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, as reported today by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Pedroso requested that the Economic and Social Council, from its Forum on Financing for Development, send a clear message at the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development to be held during the High-Level Week of the 78th UN General Assembly.
He noted that the G-77 recognizes that North-South cooperation is essential to reduce the burden imposed on developing countries, and pledges to continue its efforts to consolidate South-South cooperation, especially in the areas of science, technology, and Innovation, to become increasingly independent.
