Geodiversity exhibition opens in Havana

Havana, Cuba, 24 (RHC) A brief exhibition on Cuba's Geodiversity is open to the public at the National Museum of Natural History in Old Havana.

Twenty 20 banners on rocks and minerals and an interactive map of the main sites of geological interest (Geosites) in the country are on display in this event which includes lectures, panels, guided visits, tours, and activities with children and the general public.

MSc. Kenya Núñez Cambra, president of the Cuban Society of Geology, said that the exhibition intends to stir up people’s interest in a field that is all around us for the benefit of national development and the general knowledge about natural phenomena, adaptation to changes, natural resources management, and conservation of the geological heritage.

On December 14, 1982, the 6th Session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee granted the Historic Center of the City of Havana and its system of fortifications World Heritage status.

It was the fourth Latin American city included on the prestigious List, along with Olinda (Brazil), Quito (1978), Antigua (1979), and Ouro Preto, Brazil (1980). (Source: ACN).
