Portuguese civil society joins the cry for Cuba
Havana, April 20 (RHC) – A statement released today in Portugal reads that Cuba must be removed from the ignoble list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
During a meeting at the Casa do Alentejo in Lisbon, the text, signed by more than 160 Lusitanian intellectuals and the Portugal-Cuba friendship association, denounced the harassment to which the Caribbean island is subjected by the United States. In this way, they joined the global claim in a convened act that included the participation of the Annarella Sánchez International Ballet and Dance Conservatory.
The statement points out that Cuba has been subjected to an illegal and unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed unilaterally by different United States governments for more than 60 years, which was condemned for the thirtieth time in the UN General Assembly by the vast majority of the countries.
The note specified that the damage caused to Cuba by the blockade is estimated at 154 thousand trillion dollars, with unspeakable human damage.
In addition to the 243 more coercive measures imposed by Donald Trump, Washington once again included Cuba on the black list of State sponsors of terrorism.
The text highlighted that Cuba is a country of peace and solidarity, and in times of health crises and natural disasters, it has always been available to actively participate with its brigades in the relief of the population.
It recalled that Cuba has suffered innumerable terrorist attacks that have caused thousands of deaths and injuries, such as the attack against its Embassy in Portugal on April 22, 1976, in which two Cuban diplomats died.
The act also served to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón and honor the memory of the martyrs of the Cuban foreign service Adriana Corcho and Efrén Monteagudo.
Along with intellectuals, friends of the Caribbean island in general and Cubans residing in Lisbon, the activity was attended by the Cuban ambassador to Portugal, Yusmari Díaz Pérez. (Source: Prensa Latina)
