Cuba promotes digital transformation in the Health area

Havana, Apr 26 (RHC) - Cuba is promoting digital transformation in the Health sector today, which, in the opinion of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, is the first in a position to achieve it in the country.

At a meeting with experts, Díaz-Canel said that a group of tools, applications, ideas, projects already exist, while it remains to define what the next steps will be and how to take them.

The president spoke of taking into account, as a potentiality, cell phones and other types of devices in the hands of the population, always leaving a window for people with less access to digital things or the ability to handle them.

In this context, Karel Barthelemy, Director of Information Technology at the Ministry of Public Health, alluded to how digital transformation is taking place on the basis of science, technology and innovation.  In addition, he projected achievable realities, such as hospitals that can have electronic medical records, even "centralized" records, based on the integration of computer systems in a software ecosystem.

Barthelemy mentioned as an achievement the creation of a Radiology Network that shows good results in the province of Pinar del Río, which allows the exchange of images between hospitals in the territory.

For his part, Alexander Acosta, director of the Public Health Informatics Development Company, spoke about the advantages of unified national registries that make it possible to follow up human groups for health reasons.

The meeting also highlighted the link and collaboration of this field with academia. (Source: Prensa Latina)
