Director of the World Heritage Center will fulfill his agenda in Cuba

 

Havana, May 1 (RHC) - The director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, traveled today to Cuba on an official visit, where he will participate in various events, hold meetings and give master lectures.

During his stay on the island, scheduled until May 6, he will be received at the Ministry of Culture and the Foreign Ministry and will tour sites declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

He will also give lectures in Havana at the International Heritage Congress, which will meet from May 3 to 5, and at the International Tourism Fair of Cuba (FITCuba), which will also begin this week, dedicated to heritage.

Assomo will also participate in the Meeting of Ministers of Culture of the Group of 77 plus China, a multilateral mechanism presided over by Cuba this year, and made up of 134 of the 193 United Nations member states.

The G-77 plus China forum will address the collaboration of the bloc's countries in fields such as creative industries and heritage, among other issues.

The Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel, highlighted the importance of the visit of the director of the World Heritage Center, a position he has held since the end of 2021, to consolidate bilateral ties. She underlined Cuba’s commitment with the values ​​and principles of the organization.

Esquivel highlighted that the island is a member state of the World Heritage Convention, ratified all the cultural conventions of the multilateral entity and has nine sites declared World Heritage Sites. (Source: Prensa Latina)
