Cambodian Prime Minister plans to strengthen ties with Cuba

Phnom Penh, May 12 (RHC) Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen anticipated in Phnom Penh that the relations of friendship and collaboration existing today with Cuba could advance and be further strengthened in the coming years.

During 2022 Cambodia and Cuba developed an intense bilateral agenda, with exchanges of visits from their heads of government and the signing of new cooperation agreements, among other actions.

Hun Sen, in fact, became the first senior leader of the Kingdom to travel to Havana since Cuba's accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation with Southeast Asia (TAC), two years ago.

During his stay in the Antillean nation, the Cambodian Prime Minister, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, and president Miguel Díaz-Canel witnessed the signing of various agreements in the health, sports and international relations sectors.

Days later, Marrero traveled to Cambodia, where he witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding - one on a cultural exchange program and the other for cooperation in physical education, culture and sports.

Phnom Penh and Havana established diplomatic relations on April 15, 1960. Both countries, active members of the Non-Aligned movement, have developed bilateral dialogue at the highest level. Cambodia maintains its support for the island in its fight against the US blockade of Cuba. (Source: Prensa Latina)
