Cuban Parliament will evaluate Social Communication law

Havana, May 25 (RHC) Cuba’s National Assembly of People's Power will evaluate today the Social Communication bill, in its second extraordinary session of the tenth legislature.

In Havana, the deputies will assess for their approval of the version 34 of the legal body, which was studied and discussed by parliamentarians in recent days.

The regulations have been in the making for around six years, a period during which hundreds of people participated in the process, including specialists, who gave rise to a better-formed and more solid version.

Other topics to be discussed during the conference are the updating of the country's economic situation, analysis and approval of the legislative schedule for the current mandate, the creation of permanent work commissions and parliamentary friendship groups.

The day before, the president of Parliament, Esteban Lazo, in exchange with the legislators, defined some of the lines of work for this stage, among which included the improvement of the control and evaluation mechanisms of the approved laws and action plans.

He pointed out that in this mandate, when the discussion of numerous legal bodies is also scheduled, it will be a requirement that those who exercise the legislative initiative include a follow-up strategy proposal.

Lazo emphasized that the current composition of Parliament has to achieve greater transparency in its operation in accountability, in the presentation of budgets, and a more intentional work in the preparation of leaders.

He added that another issue that must be addressed with equal interest is care for young people, and specified that the country's work strategy with children and youth will be analyzed in the session next July, as well as numerous matters of citizen interest, such as food production.
