Friendship event with Cuba begins in Italy

Havana, July 21 (RHC) A festival of friendship with Cuba, aimed at strengthening ties between the peoples of Italy and that Caribbean nation, begins today in the capital city of Ostia and will last until Sunday, July 23.

The Italian writer Roberto Fraschetti, spokesman for the organizers of the event, explained that during the three days a wide sample of the Cuban culture will be presented in this community, located on the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with photographic exhibitions, films, book presentations and concerts.

According to the intellectual, the realization of this festival was possible thanks to a joint effort of the Julio Antonio Mella circle of the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (Anaic), with the support of the Cuban embassy in Rome and the sponsorship of the authorities of the Roman municipality 10.

The first day will be dedicated to the revolutionary fighter and Italian photographer Tina Modotti, while on July 22 a tribute will be paid to the writer and screenwriter Cesare Zavattini, and on Sunday will be the day in honor of the Cuban-born Italian writer, Ítalo Calvino.

This festival will offer the possibility "to promote the Cuban tourist offer, to promote mutual knowledge and in particular of the Caribbean island, of the authentic Cuba, far from clichés and revealed through its deep and ancient traditions," said Fraschetti.

It will also be an opportunity to highlight the collaboration between the two countries, in particular the one developed in the medical and scientific fields during the Covid-19 pandemic, when two brigades of Cuban specialists provided solidarity aid in the most difficult moments, the Italian writer stressed.
