August 13 tribute day to the Saíz brothers begins in Pinar del Río
Havana, Aug 7 (RHC) The Cuban province of Pinar del Río will host, starting this Monday, the August 13 Conference, a tribute to the brothers Sergio and Luis Saíz Montes de Oca, young revolutionaries murdered 66 years ago under Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship.
The event will begin with a tribute to Mother Esther at the Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca house-museum, in San Juan Martínez, since she was a pillar in the political and intellectual formation of both combatants who died in 1957.
Sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), activities are planned in the San Juan municipality and in the province capital, which include book presentations, concerts, a panel on the life and work of the Saíz Montes de Oca and the personal exhibition Bitácora of the plastic artist Gabriela Hernández.
The spaces also include grandparents' houses, the Boca de Galafre and Vivero communities, the Casa del Joven Creador and Francisco Rivera street, in San Juan y Martínez.
Also, this time comes Trova de Agosto, a space for artists and lovers of the genre, according to the organizers of the Conference.
On Sunday, August 13, the act for the 66th anniversary of the murder of Luis and Sergio will take place; and a concert by the Iris Duo at night, both at the monument that perpetuates the memory of young people, in their native territory.
On August 13, 1957, the police of the town of San Juan y Martínez, instructed by the high command of the repressive forces, were willing to not allow any action that day.
But the brothers Sergio and Luis left home to carry out a propaganda action and said goodbye to their mother saying: "Don't be afraid, one day you will feel proud of us"; and they lost their lives. (Source: ACN)
