Havana, September 17 (RHC)-- Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said there are two major transformations underway: the digital revolutionand energy transition. "Our countries must be able to respond to these changes," he said.

The Brazilian president gave a speech this Saturday at the summit of heads of state and government of the Group of 77 (G77) + China, which is being held in Havana, Cuba.

"We must forge a common vision that takes into account the concerns of low- and middle-income countries and other more vulnerable groups. It is strategic that the G77 has dedicated, for the first time, a Summit to the topic of Science, Technology and Innovation," he stressed.

"Since I assumed my new mandate, I have been in several forums with the presence of developing countries, such as Celac, BRICS and the G20. The G77 corresponds to 79% of the world's population and 49% of global GDP in purchasing power parity."

Lula said it was fundamental to expose the anomalies of global trade and to advocate the construction of a new international economic order.

"There are two great transformations underway. They cannot be shaped by a handful of rich economies, reediting the dependency relationship between the center and the periphery. The first is the digital revolution. And the second is the energy transition. Our countries need to have the necessary conditions to respond to these changes," he said.

The Brazilian president said that the G77 has a decisive role in the current international scenario and emphasized that for the first time the issue is being discussed, convened by Cuba, to face the challenges of development. We cannot divide, we must forge unity, he said.

"We must seek a common position to face the challenges of the current international context," he said, referring to the socioeconomic situation in Latin America.

On the subject of the summit in Havana, he considered it very timely.  He insisted that climate financing should benefit all countries equally and that South-South cooperation should be strengthened in the fields of science, technology and innovation, also with the participation of mechanisms such as CELAC and BRICS.
