Cuban president carries out intense work program in Qatar

Doha, December 2 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said Saturday that as part of his official visit to Qatar, an intense work program is scheduled, in the interest of further developing bilateral relations.

The head of state highlighted on the social network X the fraternal welcome he received upon his arrival in the Arab country, the second stop on his tour of the Middle East, which will culminate in Iran.

Cuba and Qatar established diplomatic relations on December 13, 1989 and their cooperation is evident both in the field of bilateral relations and in multilateral forums.

Prior to his arrival in Qatar, the president paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he participated in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which is being held in Dubai.

In that forum, the Cuban president reaffirmed his country's unrestricted support for the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of the genocide of the Israeli occupation forces against the civilian population of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Within the framework of COP28, Díaz-Canel held cordial meetings with the Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh; of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali; of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, as well as with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
