In addition to the meeting, Pérez presented the International Alliance for the circularity of a resilient and low-carbon sugarcane agroindustry, which has the support of countries such as Brazil, Ethiopia, the Dominican Republic and China.
She also presented the Ten-Year Framework for sustainable production and consumption.
The proposal represents a new horizon for the sphere, taking into account the sustainable development of communities, care of the soil and avoiding carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
According to statements by the minister to the Telesur television station, the Alliance seeks not only to look at the sugar agroindustry focused on the results of the final production, but to start from the sugar cane and its quality, as an important factor for the rest of the derivatives.
She commented that a month ago an international workshop was held in Havana, where representatives from 10 countries participated and laid the foundations for the initiative, drawing on the experiences of both government members and specialized agencies.
According to the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment’s account on X, formerly Twitter, the workshop addressed how the sugarcane agribusiness can carry out a transformation and leadership process through circular community approaches, with positive results for human being and climate.
