Tehran, October 2 (PL-RHC) -- Cuba's ambassador to Iran, Vladimir Gonzalez, has visited the Center for Human Rights and Cultural Diversity of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Iran where he praised the validity of the movement.

González, accompanied by the second secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Tehran, Norberto Escalona, spoke with Seyed Mohammad Hassani, director of the institution, which was established in 2007 and is closely linked to the 120-member Non-Aligned Movement.

The NAM has gained prominence in Iran in the context of its pro tempore presidency, Gonzalez said.

According to a statement from the Cuban Embassy, Hassani recognized the active and historical work done by Cuba as a NAM founding member and the excellent relations of cooperation between the two countries in the common effort to defend anti-hegemonic positions.

The center coordinates an annual agenda through seminars, high level panels and conferences with a view to legitimizing the universality of human rights, and also advocates respect for cultural, ethnic and religious diversity.
