Havana, June 5 (RHC)-- The Official Gazette published this Wednesday the new Social Communication Law whose fundamental objective is to protect the rights of people to information and communication that are contemplated in the Constitution of the Republic.

For the official presentation of the aforementioned law, a panel made up of Onelio Castillo, vice president of the institute, took place in the Che Guevara Room of the Institute of Information and Social Communication; Humberto Fabián, member of the editorial committee and president of the Country Brand; Ricardo Ronquillo, president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba and Rosa María Pérez, president of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators.

At the meeting, the main characteristics and legal and regulatory aspects of the law considered a fundamental pillar for the development of Cuba were presented.

The law, composed of 19 chapters, 107 articles and two fundamental titles, is nourished by Cuban communication practice of more than two centuries and important international references. It also accurately develops communication in the media, community and organizational spheres, from the physical and digital environments.

Social Communication Law was approved in May 2023 by the National Assembly of People's Power, in its tenth legislature, during the second extraordinary session at the Havana Convention Palace.

The legal instrument, initially as a Decree-Law and then as a Law, is the result of a broad and rigorous process of collective construction, in which professionals and experts from different disciplines, organizations and institutions participated.
