Association of Jurists demands end to US aggression against Cuba

Buenos Aires, Jul 2 (RHC) The American Association of Jurists (AAJ) demanded on Tuesday the removal of Cuba from Washington's list of State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) and to end the blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island.

The AAJ issued a statement urging the US government to lift the blockade and all sanctions that violate international standards and human rights.

The association also expressed the urgent and immediate need to remove Cuba from the SSOT list, which it considers contrary to the fundamental principles and peremptory norms of law.

"The AAJ denounces this hostile action and demands the total and immediate removal of Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Once again, this unilateral action violates the Charter of the United Nations, whose precepts include respect for the principle of equality and self-determination of peoples," the statement said.

"It is also inconsistent with the resolutions of the UN General Assembly, which have overwhelmingly called for an end to the blockade. The list violates the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights," it added.

The American Association of Jurists believes that "this arbitrary decision aims to maintain and intensify the unjust and inhumane blockade and coercive measures to deprive the Cuban people of their right to self-determination and their political, civil, economic, social, cultural and developmental rights".

"The blockade and other measures cause serious damage to the Cuban economy in all its aspects, including infrastructure, industry, energy sources, finance and agriculture. It has dire consequences for the population, which suffers in terms of health care, food and other basic needs," the American Association of Jurists said. (Source: Prensa Latina)
