Belmopan, July 10 (RHC) Some 100 aviation leaders are meeting today in the Belizean city of Placencia for the 12th Annual Meeting of the Directors of Civil Aviation of North, Central America and the Caribbean.

Belize, the host country, is a nation where aviation is the backbone of its thriving tourism sector, which accounts for 55 percent of GDP.

The conference, which began on July 9 and runs through tomorrow, July 11, will outline strategies for working together to improve aviation safety and facilitation.

The agenda also includes discussion of issues such as security, challenges to the region's air connectivity, and the implementation of standards and practices recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

During the Conclave, participants underscored Belize's commitment to excellence in aviation and its growing prominence in the aviation industry.
