Havana, July 19 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated this Thursday the importance of increasing and taking advantage of the potential of national production.

Speaking at the third session of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), the Cuban leader urged the deputies to look for ways to reduce imports and to work creatively to generate goods and distribute them equitably.

He called for mountainous municipalities to be able to be self-sufficient and guarantee essential productions such as milk for children.

During the debates on the accountability report of the Ministry of Domestic Trade (Mincin), Díaz-Canel insisted that the territories must fully exploit their potential, the workforce, give life to idle lands and "not settle."

For her part, the head of the portfolio, Betsy Díaz explained to the deputies that the work priorities of the organization are aimed at consolidating the national commercial leadership, controlling the legality of all economic actors who carry out the activities of the sector, implementing banking and the use of electronic payment in operations and promoting the application of science and innovation.

She acknowledged that the main dissatisfactions of the population are related to the distribution of food from the standard family basket and the increase in the number of basic products at high prices.

Meanwhile, the president of the Commission for Attention to Services, Tamara Valido Benítez, stated that the management of trade requires concrete actions, more demands and adapting more quickly to changes in the economy and society.

When presenting an opinion on the Mincin's accountability report, she stated that state trade structures subordinate to both the provincial government and local administrations have to assume their role more quickly.

The deputies suggested that the representatives of the organization adopt a series of actions to reinforce the digital transformation and the banking of operations, as well as strengthen social programs.

The third ordinary session of the National Assembly will meet until next Saturday with an eye on core issues in the socioeconomic sphere of Cuba. (Source: Prensa Latina)
