Cuban president says a better world is possible

Sancti Spíritus, July 26 (RHC)--  The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stressed this Thursday in the central province of Sancti Spíritus, that a better world is possible.

The Cuban leader participated in a meeting with representatives of brigades and solidarity groups who met in that territory, the site of the central event for July 26, National Rebellion Day.

He stressed that all of us in different trenches “are fighting to achieve it, even in the midst of the complex situation that the country is experiencing and with a tightened economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government against Cuba.”

He cited economic asphyxiation and media intoxication as two manifestations of the above, and in the latter case by presenting a virtual and distorted Cuba distant from the real one, with needs, but with a respectful and loving people who resist.

“We know that you recognize that Cuba is not a sponsor of terrorism and has been a victim of it,” said Díaz-Canel.

He underlined the particular feeling of the Caribbean nation for Puerto Rico and recalled the poem that refers to Cuba and Puerto Rico as two wings of the same bird.

“You give us solidarity and we demand the independence of Puerto Rico,” he emphasized.

Later he cited the maxim of Building economic wealth to distribute with social justice. “First comes everyone, above the self,” and later pointed out that Cuba has systematically condemned the genocide of the Israeli government against Palestine.

“If you have contributed to the Cuban Revolution, we have the duty to defend it. Continue to count on Cuba and be certain that there will be a Socialist Revolution in Cuba forever,” he concluded.

Among others, the participants were Milagros Rivera, president of the Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and coordinator of the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade, and Thorben Peters, representative of the Left Party in Lower Saxony and active member of the solidarity movement in Germany.

Also present were Rosemari Mealy, member of the Board of Directors of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) Pastors for Peace, and José López, president of the José Martí Cultural Association of the United States.

Also on hand were Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, Deivy Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Alexis Lorente, governor, and Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.

Also participating were 47 members of the José Martí European Brigade for Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba, formed by nine countries, and 10 Cubans living in the United States, members of the José Martí Cultural Association.

A dozen students from African and Caribbean countries who graduated from the University of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spíritus, where the meeting took place, met at the solidarity meeting.  (Source: Prensa Latina)
