Cuba will resist and win, say Uruguayans

Montevideo, July 26 (RHC) Cuba will resist and win was the slogan shared at a rally to celebrate the Caribbean island's National Day of Rebellion.

The event took place at the Cuban Embassy on the 71st anniversary of the attacks on two garrisons of the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista, led by Fidel Castro.

Lawmakers and other Uruguayan friends of Cuba, ambassadors from several countries, and Cuban residents here were among those who participated in the celebration.

Also present were members of a Cuban medical brigade that provides services at the José Martí Eye Hospital, a cooperation project that has been in place for 17 years,

Cuba is an example of resistance and defense of sovereignty, said Matilde Pomi, of the Federation of University Students of Uruguay.

She represented the Uruguayan Anti-imperialist Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the Peoples of the World, which brings together different social and political groups in the South American country.

Cuba is a heroic example of not giving up, said Pomi, who criticized the policy of blockade that the U.S. government has imposed on the Caribbean Island for more than six decades.

Cuban Ambassador Zulan Popa stressed that her people do not give up and rely on the support of other nations.

One example is the brigades that bring solidarity to their homeland, including from Uruguay, where a new campaign has begun to collect medical supplies and medicines for the Cuban people. (Source: Prensa Latina)
