Abel Prieto condemns media aggressions against Venezuela

Havana, 18 August (RHC) The president of the Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto, today condemned the media aggression against the Bolivarian Revolution and the interference of the United States in Venezuelan affairs.

During the Day of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and Against Fascism, organized at the Venezuelan Embassy in this capital, the Cuban intellectual compared the attack on the South American nation to the attack suffered by Spain in the last century.

Juan Marinello said in 1937 at the Congress of Antifascist Writers in Spain that "it is not possible to fight fascism without attacking its twin brother, imperialism," and this can be applied to Venezuela, he assured.

Today against Venezuela, said Abel Prieto, these two satanic brothers, fascism and imperialism, are acting with all the power of new technologies.

Venezuela now represents what the Republican Spain of those years was, mercilessly attacked and betrayed by the forces of hate, he said.

He also recalled that the Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, denounced in a press conference the maneuvers of the right wing to invalidate the electoral process and its results.

Diosdado said that they were not interested in the elections, that the next day they wanted to chant fraud, unleash a fierce campaign, and once again they would have to face international fascism, and he was right, he commented.

The most surprising thing is how many young people are being recruited by terrorist groups and some are being trained in the United States to kill, to attack schools, health centers. It's terrible. And they pay them with drugs and a few dollars, he said. On the other hand, he considered a bad joke the efforts of the Cuban diaspora in Miami to nominate María Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize, as a supposed defender of democracy and human rights.

All this is in the manual, it is in the script: to sacrifice fascism, to reward it, to stimulate it and to give it international flight, he declared, adding that in Venezuela there is a battle between the Monroe Doctrine, synthesized in the phrase "America for the Americans," and the Battle of Ayacucho, the last great confrontation of the Spanish-American wars of independence in South America. Abel Prieto was one of the speakers at the conference, along with the Venezuelan ambassador, Orlando Maneiro, and the coordinator of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity of Peoples, Graciela Ramírez, among others.

The meeting was also attended by the Nicaraguan ambassador, Guisell Socorro Morales, other diplomats, representatives of various government institutions and members of solidarity movements. (Source: Prensa Latina)
