Havana, August 27 (RHC)--  The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Monday his support for his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, and denounced the coup attempts in the South American country, perpetrated by the opposition at the behest of the United States.

Speaking virtually at the XI Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Díaz-Canel insisted on the importance of unity and solidarity among the nations of the region in the face of the situation in Venezuela.

“At this time, once again we are called upon by conscience and solidarity, (...) we are very aware of the grave danger that the unitary project that this alliance represents is in, and also of the value of the solidarity statements that all of our America owes to sister Venezuela,” the president stressed.

He warned that the Bolivarian nation is currently facing a rude and concerted campaign of discredit that seeks to mask another coup attempt.

He also denounced the continuation of imperialist harassment, external interference, the onslaught of the oligarchies, and the media and political manipulation to generate destabilization, promote a coup and attempt to overthrow the Bolivarian and Chavista government.

The Cuban leader reiterated his country's strongest condemnation of the systematic aggression against Venezuela and repudiated any attempt to encourage violence and to cloud the peace that its noble and brave people demand and need.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that these "are times of unity and firmness against imperialism and the oligarchies that take advantage of the slightest opportunity to attack the triumph and stability of each popular-oriented force."

The Cuban president stressed that in Venezuela the conflict is being resolved between two clearly conflicting world views: on one side, social justice and on the other, the interest in preserving the system of injustices and hegemonies prevails.

It is not possible, he said, to remain indifferent to the calculated articulation of regional oligarchies, imperialism, communications empires and digital platforms against Venezuela.

During his address, the Cuban president praised and expressed his country's admiration for the serenity, the high democratic sense and vocation for peace expressed by Maduro and his team in responding to the aforementioned provocations.

He also highlighted the popular mobilizations carried out and the presentation of an electoral contentious appeal before the Electoral Chamber of the highest judicial body of the Bolivarian nation, under the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic.

"Cuba, which knows, respects and admires the Bolivarian and Chavista civic-military unity of the Venezuelan people, trusts that with that force, the homeland of (Simón) Bolívar, (Hugo) Chávez and Maduro, will continue to demonstrate that it is resistant to all threats and harassment," he stressed.
