Havana, October 14 (RHC-AIN), The Jose Vasconcelos Prize of the Hispanist Affirmation Front of the Academy of Sciences of Mexico, was presented on Saturday to Nuria Gregori, director of the Jose Antonio Portuondo Institute of Literature and Linguistics in Havana.
Fredo Arias de la Canal, president of the Mexican institution, highlighted that Gregori deserved this acknowledgement for her outstanding work in research and promotion of the Hispanic cultural heritage.
He said that this prize has been presented since 1968 and was given in its first edition to Cuban Salvador Bueno, who was the president of the Cuban Academy of Language and a strong promoter of literature and the spiritual heritage of Hispanic origin.
The president of the Mexican institution also recalled that the award has also been deserved by personalities of the stature of Argentinean writer and poet Jose Luis Borges, Venezuelan novelist Arturo Uslar Pietri, Puerto Rican patriot and poet Lolita Lebron and Cubans Carilda Oliver Labra, Francisco Henriquez and Lorenzo Suarez.
