The Cuban MInister of Culture stressed that today identities are threatened by the hegemony of the colonizing cultural industry

Havana, September 13 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso today highlighted, when speaking at the 10th International Forum of United Cultures in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, that promoting culture as a universal good means betting on a more equitable, fair and inclusive world.

In this sense, Alonso pointed out that to reinforce the role of culture in building peace, unilateral coercive measures contrary to international law must disappear.

He stressed that today identities are threatened by the hegemony of the colonizing cultural industry, which produces and disseminates 80 percent of the content and controls two-thirds of internet traffic.

Alonso said that Cuba, despite the difficulties derived from the US blockade, guarantees the population's full access to cultural goods and services, and the right to participate in artistic and literary activity.

He also highlighted that it is essential to make global commitments around the promotion of cultural policies that promote sustainable development and recognize the value of culture as its main catalyst. (Source: PL)
