The first TURNAT was held in 2000 in the western Cuban region of Pinar del Río

Havana, September 24 (RHC) The 14th International Nature Tourism Event (Turnat 2024) begins today in the eastern Cuban province of Granma, at the Marea del Portillo Hotel.

More than 100 tour operators, travel agents and specialized journalists from 20 countries, including Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, China, and the Netherlands, along with Cuba, attend the event. The main organizer is the Ecotur agency, an entity of the Ministry of Tourism of the Caribbean island.

Scheduled from September 24 to 29, it is a key meeting on nature, adventure and rural tourism, particularly for professionals in the travel sector.

Many of the tourism entities that work with Cuba attend the meeting, which is common on the island every two years in a different setting to enlighten attendees about the benefits of the country. The current edition is dedicated to the South East (Granma, Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba).

The program includes 36 communities and 85 destinations. As usual, there is a first day of talks and explanations, and then attendees organize themselves into groups for different trips through that territory.

Cuba has 14 National Parks, two Geoparks, six Ramsar Sites and 286 nature tourism products, which makes it good for developing these modalities currently trending worldwide.

The first TURNAT was held in 2000 in the western Cuban region of Pinar del Río. At that time it was planned as an annual event and later moved to every two years. (Source: PL)
