Havana, October 27 (RHC)-- The first container with donations from the western provinces left the capital this Saturday, as part of the solidarity aid from the population and civil society organizations for the Guantanamo municipalities affected by Hurricane Oscar.

This valuable humanitarian cargo left this Saturday from the Almacenes Emprosut Basic Unit, located at kilometer one and a half of the National Highway, where for this purpose packages, boxes and bundles from Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque and the 15 municipalities of Havana are received and classified.

As confirmed by the Cuban News Agency, these are foodstuffs, medical supplies, clothing and footwear, toys, household items, electrical appliances, cleaning products and a wide variety of products intended for families and people who have lost their property, including homes, as well as for social institutions.

Orlando Santiesteban Álvarez, appointed by the Government in the capital to direct the reception and dispatch of donations from the western region, stated that a work system was established to act with agility, promptness, security and organization so that everything arrives in Guantánamo in a timely manner.

The work of the workers and directors of Almacenes Emprosut, from the stevedores to the accounting staff, in the work of collecting everything donated by the population, mass and social organizations, agencies, entities, the non-state sector and churches, is therefore commendable.

Yianiurky López Estrada, a worker at that company, said that seeing so much human and supportive generosity there has caused her great emotion, although she has also asked each compatriot to offer their help from her WhatsApp account and in her block.

In Pinar del Río "we continue cultivating Revolution for new victories" is the slogan that we Pinar del Río residents are raising in the heat of actions to support the eastern territories severely affected by Hurricane Oscar, Francisco Hernández Corrales, a labor leader in the western province, told ACN.

From early in the morning he traveled to Havana at the front of the truck that brought the first donations from its residents, organizations and agencies; yes, because more will come in the next few days, with a view to delivering them to the municipalities of Imías, San Antonio del Sur, Baracoa and Maisí, he added.

Alfredo García Pérez, from the national secretariat of the Energy and Mining Union, also highlighted the positive and rapid response of its members, although entities from the Geominsal Salt and Mining Business Group have been sending donations to the affected Guantanamo territories for several days.
