Caracas, December 14 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, praised this Saturday, in Caracas, the united will of the member nations of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).

Speaking at the XXIV Summit of that integrating mechanism, the Cuban president described the founding of the same as a milestone in the battle for the freedom of Our America.

“Twenty years have passed since the memorable evening of December 14, 2004, in Havana, when Fidel and Chávez sealed with an embrace the birth of ALBA, an emancipatory process that time has transformed into an embrace of our peoples,” said Díaz-Canel.

He denounced the threats to the security and peace of ALBA-TCP members, and stressed the need to promote multilateralism in the face of imperialism's attempts to maintain its hegemony, as well as to defend the declaration of the Latin American region as a zone of peace.

Under the slogan ‘An embrace that marked the course of our history’, the meeting celebrates the first meeting, in 1994, between the revolutionary leaders Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and Hugo Chávez Frías (1954-2013), and the 20th anniversary of the constitution of the Latin American and Caribbean integration bloc, created by them.

The meeting takes place at the Parque Simón Bolívar Convention Center, La Carlota, in the Venezuelan capital, with the participation of the 10 member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance, and as special guests representatives of Honduras and Palestine.

Also attending are members of more than 80 social movements from thirty countries.
