International Poetry Festival to be held in Cuba

Havana, Jan 3 (RHC) The CubaPoesía Cultural Center, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, is calling for the 31st Havana International Poetry Festival and its Virtual Poetry Rally, from May 26 to 31, 2025.

The event is a tribute to the 130th anniversary of the death in battle of the Cuban poet and national hero José Martí. It is coordinated by poet Karel Leyva Ferrer and will be hosted by the Cuban poet Nancy Morejón.

According to the announcement, the world is facing a time of darkness, a crisis of the values cherished by civilization holds dear, with the threat of a nuclear war looming and possibly resulting in the extinction of life on Earth. In this context, the text emphasized that this is the time when poetry and poets must speak up in defense of the life and beauty that has been a part of the human journey.

The participants in the virtual Poetic rally must previously submit their video recordings, which can be submitted in either English or Spanish, to the website festivaldepoesiadelahabana.com by April 21, 2025.

The videos will be six minutes long for poetry recitals and 20 minutes long for discussions in the reflection sessions.

The pages on Facebook, the YouTube channel «Virtual Poetic Rally» and the «Streaming Cuba» channel of the Ministry of Culture will provide a live feed of the festival events for poetry enthusiasts. (Source: Prensa Latina)
