Tehran, October 29 (RHC-FNA) - The Iranian Foreign Ministry has appointed Kambiz Sheikh Hassani as the New Iranian Ambassador to Cuba, Fars News Agency reports.

Sheikh Hassani, who was appointed to the post on Tuesday, has previously served as an advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, Iran's charge d'affaires in Canada and ambassador to New Zealand.

He also served as the head of the third office of East Asia and Pacific and the head of Foreign Ministry's Economic Cooperation Office

In recent years, Iran has been seeking to enhance its relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries within the framework of international organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), whose rotating presidency is currently held by Iran.

Official International Monetary Fund (IMF) statistics show that Tehran’s annual trade with the Latin American countries has exceeded $3 billion.
