Washington, October 29 (RHC-PL) -- A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, James McGovern, a Democrat from the U.S. state of Massachusetts, urged President Barack Obama to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for over 50 years.

On Tuesday, McGovern said the blockade against Cuba has had a very negative impact on the Cuban people, and has seen the United States grow increasingly isolated in the region and the world.

"The Cold War is over. It is time to change," the legislator said in his message that was posted on his website and the U.S. Capitol's website at www.thehill.com.

"It is time that the Obama administration takes concrete measures to reduce restrictions against Cuba, re-establish diplomatic relations, and begin a dialogue of mutual benefit to end the conflict among our nations," McGovern said.

According to the Massachusetts Democrat, undoing restrictions would be beneficial to U.S. interests.
