Bruno Meets with Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO) Robert Floy
Havana, April 2 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has reiterated his country's commitment to nuclear disarmament and a complete and effective ban on nuclear testing.
Reporting on the social network X about a meeting held in Havana with Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO) Robert Floy, the Cuban foreign minister affirmed that this position is based on the humanist thinking of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Floy is on an official visit to this Caribbean nation until April 2nd, responding to an invitation from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).
In the Cuban capital, the island's top diplomat exchanged experiences with experts from the Center for Radiation Protection and Hygiene and the Institute of Meteorology and Nuclear Safety on the country's early warning systems: radiological, seismological, and tsunami warning systems.
He also visited the National Data Center for Early Warning for Disaster Mitigation, where he spoke with the center's coordinator, José Luis Dona, and witnessed in real time the information provided by the CTBTO network to the Environmental Radiological Monitoring Network and the seismological and tsunami warning systems.
Cuba was the 185th country to sign and the 169th to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, after depositing its instrument of ratification on February 4, 2021. Since then, it has been included in a pilot project to create new capacities, for which it received basic equipment for a Data Center from the CTBTO.
In addition, the Caribbean country benefits from the products and services offered by the International Data Center, which are of scientific interest and as an additional early warning mechanism for earthquakes and radiological events.
Qualified specialists are also trained in other disciplines such as Geology, Meteorology, Infrasound, Hydroacoustics, Mathematical Modeling, and Computer Science, based on the developments achieved by the Organization.
