Havana, November 13 (RHC-SKNObserver) -– Three health professionals from St. Kitts-Nevis are in Cuba for one week of intensive training in the clinical management of persons infected with the Ebola Virus Disease, the St. Kitts and Nevis Observer reports.
According to information from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer obtained by the newspaper, the medical personnel -- a doctor and two nurses -- arrived in Havana on Monday.
While in Cuba, the team would also study the setting-up of a treatment center. The technical assistance provided comes through the collaboration of the OECS Secretariat and the Government of Cuba.
The information reaffirms to the public that a shipment of the approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would arrive in St. Kitts and Nevis soon. Meanwhile, “training in PPE donning and doffing continues under the supervision of certified local trainers, and port isolation and quarantine facilities are undergoing retrofitting.”
It indicated, also, that hospitals, both on St. Kitts and on Nevis, have isolation units and essential supplies for Ebola treatment, and that the Cabinet will soon make a final decision regarding the location of an all-hazards treatment center for the Federation.
