Havana, November 20 (RHC) -- The Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Domingos Simoes Pereira, arrives today in Havana on an official visit, diplomatic sources announced.

The head of government of the African country will meet with First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and will participate in various activities during his stay on the Caribbean island.

Domingos Simoes has held several government posts in his country and also currently serves as chairman of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde.

Although, no official source has mentioned the main issues to be addressed during the official visit, analysts say the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa will be at the top of the agenda.

Given its location in West Africa, bordering Ebola-stricken Guinea Conakry, Guinea-Bissau is among 15 countries that have been prioritized for technical assistance on preparedness by the World Health Organization.

No cases of Ebola have been reported so far in Guinea Bissau, but the scenario of a future infection does not look far fetched. Health officials say the country lacks the financial resources and material for a comprehensive prevention plan.

In addition, the nation has no hospital prepared to receive patients or devices to properly diagnose the virus. The government has closed its borders to Ebola-affected countries and banned traditional burial ceremonies, as part of preventive measures.
