Havana, Dec 6, (RHC), -- A Cuban doctor, who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone, arrived Saturday afternoon in Cuba, following a successful recovery in a hospital in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Felix Baez Sarría, a 43 year-old doctor with Cuba’s medical brigade in Sierra Leone, was declared virus free by health authorities of the Geneva University Hospital, where he was admitted on November 20, at the proposal of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Cuban doctor was welcomed by his family and Cuban government officials upon his arrival this afternoon at Havana’s International Airport.

The latest Ebola outbreak in West Africa has killed some 6000 people, according to data from the WHO.

Some 256 Cuban doctors and paramedics have been deployed to affected areas in Sierra Leone, Guinea Konakry and Liberia to fight the deadly disease.
