Havana, January 14 (RHC) -– Cuba expects to deploy 17 transmitters to optimize the island's digital TV signal, according to reports from Havana.

The implementation of digital TV in Cuba began in 2013 when tests were performed successfully in Havana using the Chinese Digital Terrestrial Broadcast (DTMB) standard.

Digital TV currently reaches the country's 15 provincial capitals. The government of Cuba had previously announced plans to start production of locally made decoders for digital TV during 2015.

Digital TV is also present in other large urban areas across the country. The current coverage of digital TV reaches nearly 5 million people. By 2021, the analog signal will be switched off by the government. Total investment for the implementation of digital TV in the country reached 10.5 million USD.
