Turkey Expresses Desire to Join Cuban Economic Update

Havana, February 12 (RHC-PL) -- Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci expressed the interest of his country to accompany Cuba during the process of economic update, by increasing investment and trade.

In the context of the Cuba-Turkey Business Forum, held Wednesday in Havana, the minister highlighted the good and attractive prospects offered by the Caribbean nation for the exchange of goods and services in sectors such as tourism, transportation, medicine, biotechnology and industry.

He noted the intention of the Eurasian state to take part in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), opened last year in the west of the island with the aim of promoting sustainable economic progress by attracting foreign investment.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, Orlando Hernandez, welcomed the presence of a large Turkish business delegation in Havana, which is accompanying the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as part of the official visit.

He said that the Business Forum held during this conference was intended to inform the visiting entrepreneurs on trade and investment opportunities and at the same time, learn about the Turkish market to assess the inclusion of Cuban products.

According to Hernández, currently the exchange between the two countries includes goods such as cigarettes, cocoa products, forestry and pharmaceuticals, simple superphosphates and glass, among others.
