Washington, February 16 (RHC) -- A survey published today in Washington shows that more than the 70% of Latinos in the United States are in favor of the re-establishment of diplomatic relationships between both countries.

The inquiry carried out at a national level by Florida Atlantic University (FAU) also revealed that 68% are in favor of bilateral trade.

Kevin Wagner, an expert of FAU´s Initiative of Economic Surveys and Business, said that this poll illustrates that a broader portion of the Latin community is in favor of the normalization of the relationship between both countries, a process in which the re-establishment of diplomatic ties constitutes the first step.

In the southern states, including Florida, 60% of Latinos support the increase of trade with Cuba, while on a national level, 49% of the respondents say they would like to visit Cuba.

Cuban President Raul Castro, and U.S. President Barack Obama announced on December 17th their decision to work for the re-establishment of diplomatic relations and begin a process towards the normalization of bilateral ties, broken by Washington over half a century ago.
