Geneva, February 19 (RHC)-- Cuban Health First Deputy Minister Dr. José Ángel Portal stated that Cuba's rapid response to the World Health Organization's appeal to fight the Ebola outbreak is part of the solidarity history the country has maintained for more than five decades.

During a meeting on the Ebola response in Geneva with foreign medical teams, the deputy minister, leading the Cuban delegation, highlighted the importance to include Cuba's experience to policies and procedures in the struggle to face this kind of emergencies. The Cuban official also expressed the Island's political will to keep contributing with the health systems of the affected nations.

Portal added Cuba has not only participated actively in the fight against epidemics in West Africa but has also contributed to train Latin American nations to prevent and fight the disease, within the regional mechanisms of integration as the case of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Dr. Portal concluded all teams must continue working together to increase their cooperation.
