Havana, February 23 (PL-RHC)-- The business group AZCUBA produced about 4.5 million liters of bio-stimulant Fitomas-E in 2014, twice the amount achieved in the previous year, according to Carlos Gonzalez, director of AZCUBA sugarcane by-products division.

Fitomas, a by-product of the Cuban sugarcane industry, is a bio-stimulant of rooting foliation application to overcome the effects caused by nutritional deficiency, drought, excess of moisture and pest attacks.

The production of the new plant joins to one pilot plant existing in the Cuban Institute for Research on Sugar Cane By-products (ICIDCA), a center which developed the technology several years ago and generates more than two million liters a year.

According to experts, this is a foliation substance that is added to irrigation water by sprinklers and its components are organic extract, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, elements capable of benefiting twenty crops, mainly sugar cane.

The bio-stimulant accelerates the germination of several types of seeds, increases vegetative and rooting development, and enhances the action of herbicides and pesticides, reducing crop cycle and increasing performance.
