Brussels, February 27 (PL-RHC)-- Christos Stylianides, European commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management, recognized the role Cuba has played in fighting the Ebola epidemic.

Stylianides, who met in Brussels with Cuban Deputy Public Health Minister Marcia Cobas, stated that the international community should thank the Caribbean island for putting all its experience at the service of people in need during this health crisis.

He also mentioned he has had the opportunity to appreciate the work done by the island's physicians on many West African nations.

Cobas explained the actions carried out to train health specialists not only in all African countries where Cuban collaborators are working right now, but also in Latin America and the Caribbean.

She pointed out that some 18,000 were trained to fight Ebola and other epidemiological emergencies, as a result of those training actions.

Both parties talked about the celebration of a Top-Level International Conference on Ebola to be held in Brussels on March 3rd, the note from the Cuban embassy in Belgium stated.

Discussion and decision-making on issues related to the post-Ebola stage and actions to commit to prevent the resurgence or outbreaks from other equally deadly hemorrhagic fevers, are also expected to be discussed about during the meeting.
