India´s Premier will Visit Cuba at the Invitation of Raul Castro

Havana, Mar 25, (RHC), – India´s prime minister Narendra Modi accepted an invitation from Cuban president Raul Castro to visit Havana.

The announcement was made by Narendra Modi himself following a meeting in New Delhi with visiting Cuban first vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The premier stressed current relations between India and Cuba by saying that the island made “an important contribution” to the emancipation of developing nations. He also underscored Cuba´s support in the health area by sending medical brigades to fight the Ebola virus in Africa.

Narendra Modi recalled the close bilateral relations between New Delhi and Havana, which were established under the presidency of Fidel Castro and he favored larger cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade, investment, health, renewable energy and biotechnology.

India´s Foreign Ministry announced that the two countries signed a visa exemption accord for persons with diplomatic passport.

The Cuban first vice-president arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a three day visit, during which he will meet with local authorities on ways to boost bilateral relations.

At present, bilateral cooperation between India and Cuba takes place in the sector of human resources and sports.
