Havana, April 17 (RHC)-- Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro held a telephone conversation with the members of a university student brigade, whose name honors the entrance 70 years ago of Fidel at the University of Havana and which has been on a tour of sites linked to the history of Cuba.
During the phone conversation with the president of the University Student Federation, Randy Perdomo, Fidel said that it was important for the group to have made this trip, “not for satisfying curiosity, but to acquire knowledge.”
Fidel asked about the places visited by the youth brigade, which toured areas in the provinces of Villa Clara, Ciego de Avila and Granma since they departed Havana last Saturday. The young people are also scheduled to visit Fidel's birthplace in the locality of Biran.
Regarding their program, the Cuban leader suggested that the young people should tour lands formerly occupied by the United Fruit Company, some 140,000 hectares planted only with sugar cane, which provided only a three-month labor period for local workers.
Fidel told the students: “You will see a beautiful home there, but it is beautiful now. In my time, there was nothing, no radio, only an old telephone used for communications with the sugar mill.” And the Cuban Revolution leader added that the young people should be happy to have been born in these times, which are more dangerous than any other, however living in his times was much worse.
