Panama, May 16, (RHC), -- The President of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), Elias Castillo, stressed the permanent and unwavering stance of that organization against the US economic blockade on Cuba.
At the opening of the XXX Ordinary Assembly, Castillo said the organization plays an effective role in the region as a mediator and facilitator in the pursuit of greater national consensus. Particularly highlighting the organization's efforts to support the Colombia peace process.
In a farewell speech at the end of his term, the Parlatino President also said the institution is working to eradicate social inequality, hunger, poverty and marginalization of the region, noting that Latin America and the Caribbean must move towards peace and integration.
The President of Panama Parliament Adolfo Valderrama also addressed delegates from 23 countries attending the meeting, and commended the work of Castillo as head of Parlatino.
