Cuba Prepares for Pope's Visit Later This Month

Havana, September 2 (RHC)-- With less than twenty days before Pope Francis arrives in Havana, final details and preparations are being made for welcoming the Supreme Pontiff.

In Havana's Plaza de la Revolución, the stage and the altar are ready, from which the Bishop of Rome will offer Mass and welcome around 40,000 people.

In an interview given to the National Television Network, the Archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Ortega, said that the Cuban people will enthusiastically receive the Pope and his message of prosperity, unity and peace for the world.

Cardinal Ortega said he is satisfied with the preparations for the upcoming visit of the head of the Catholic Church.

Argentinean Jorge Mario Bergolio, the first Latin American Pope, will visit Cuba from the 19th to the 22nd of September and will offer Mass in Havana, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba. Following his visit to Cuba, Pope Francis will travel to the United States.
