Havana, Febrero 22 (RHC)-- Cuban President Raúl Castr, has urged the people to fulfill all the measures adopted by the country's Ministry of Hhealth to prevent the introduction of Zika virus into Cuba.
Raúl's call on the Cuban people was published Monday in Cuba's newspaper Granma. In it, the Cuban president notes that to date, no cases of Zika have been detected in the country, although all cases of non-specific fever symptoms are being monitored and studied. He also confirmed that sanitary controls are being intensified at all ports of entry.
President Raúl said that in case of infection, all conditions are in place to provide qualified medical assistance.
“Cuba has also undertaken intense efforts to reduce the vector’s presence. Nevertheless, factors related to inadequate technical quality of anti-vector work, poor environmental sanitation, and adverse weather conditions have contributed to the risk of diseases spreading.”
Raúl said that the Cuban Communist Party and government have adopted a plan of action, under the direction of the Ministry of Public Health, to confront Zika, and the dengue and Chikungunya viruses, as well.
He added that, as in all struggles waged by the Revolution, the conscious participation of the entire people is indispensable for success.
