Brasilia, May 25 (RHC)-- Brazil’s largest television channel, Globo, has admitted that it divulged false information about former Brazilian presidents Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff.
Globo journalist William Waak acknowledged on television that previous reports about Lula and Rousseff, allegedly owning foreign bank accounts, were inaccurate.
Globo's Waak clarified that although channel owner Joesley Batista had claimed that he deposited money in two current accounts abroad, in the names of the ex-Presidents Lula and Dilma Rousseff, in reality, Batista had acknowledged that the account was in his name, and that money was going to be allocated to Lula and Dilma's campaigns.
But the correction did not repair damage caused to Lula's and Rousseff’s image, since many international agencies and foreign newspapers had since echoed Globo’s false claim, failing to correct it later.
