Buenos Aires, June 12 (PL-RHC) -- The creation of a new South American military force is one of the topics debated at a conference called "The Defense and Natural Resources", now in session in Buenos Aires.
The military project was promoted by Alfredo Forti, director of the Strategic Defense Studies Center of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), and points out that the new military institution, called South American Military Force (FMS) would be useful to defend the common interests of the countries of the region, with special emphasis on natural resources.
The event was organized by the South American Defense Council (CDS) and Forti expressed the need for the creation of FMS, to protect the regional interests and the "progress of extra-regional actors."
The conference has gathered civilian and military representatives in the host building of the Argentinean Defense Ministry since June 9th.
The delegates represent the 12 member countries of UNASUR, to exchange ideas on the mechanisms to preserve the strategic resources of the region.
When presenting his proposal, Forti said the creation of FMS is a consequence of the materialization of a regional strategic vision.
